Troy’s friends called him “T-bone” all through high school and college he led a charmed life. He was popular, had steady girlfriends, and was a talented tight-end. He came from a working class family, went to church on Sundays, and worked at a local car dealership detailing cars. His family was thrilled when he got a scholarship to play ball at KU. He would be the first in his family to attend college, everyone expected great things from him.

All of that went south when one July weekend 6 years ago, he and his girlfriend went camping near Clinton Lake. It happened in a flash, whatever it was ripped through the tent. Overwhelmed with instinct Troy scrambled to saftey and ran. He left Rachel behind. Barely able to hear her screams over the pounding of his own heart, he searched for anything he could use to defend her. In seconds he found a large stout branch, now armed he returned to the tent.

Whatever it was was huge and covered in fur that was now wet with blood. It was hunched over a now quiet Rachel, eating her flesh. Horrified Troy stood and watched in the moonlight as he realized no one could help Rachel. The sharp crack of bone brought him back into action. Summoning his courage he rushed forward at the monster, trying to drive it away, hoping it would kill him and then he would wake up.

The FBI investigation and subsequent trial took almost two years to resolve. Troy had gone from leading a charmed life to being a pariah. No one believed him, they all assumed he had taken some drug that had made him go insane and kill Rachel. Then he was contacted by Brandon. It was a short email. All it said was, “I believe you and I need your help.” Troy waited two days to answer it, unsure what to make of it. It turned out answering the email was the best thing he has ever done.
